Kristi Breese

Lead Secretary

I have been working for the Crook County School District in some capacity since 2003.  Most recently, I spent 16 years at the high school as an educational assistant, focusing mainly in the math department.  I have had the pleasure of helping so many students earn their diplomas and love seeing how they have grown up and started working within our community.  This last year I had the opportunity to change my role and become the secretary/registrar for Grizzly Mountain HomeLink.  After so many years being hands on in the classroom it has been a change of pace, but I am loving the new challenges and opportunities it has brought me.

More about Mrs. Breese

I am the mother of two girls, both of which have graduated from Crook County as well as a grandma to two beautiful girls; and another grand baby coming this summer!  My youngest daughter has left me with two rescue cats that run the house.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time in my greenhouses planting flowers and socializing within the community.  I opened a greenhouse business, Hidden Falls Garden, in 2004 with my late husband and have been running it ever since.  I also enjoy kayaking, playing card games, and traveling.

I am excited to be a part of this extraordinary team as we grow the program even farther and continue to help students be successful.

Secretary

I spent most of my time volunteering at Powell Butte School as the Librarian and helping with art classes. After my kids graduated from Powell Butte in 2019, I started working as an Instructional Assistant at Crook County High School, helping students who needed my help in classes. Life took a new direction with my current position in March of 2023 as High School Secretary at Grizzly Mountain Homelink. I have been learning new skills and enjoying the diversity. I still get to see kids on a daily basis and have helped with Algebra for some students here.  I am excited and looking forward to whatever the future holds.

I am a native Oregonian who thoroughly enjoys the active lifestyle offered here. My hobbies include gardening, trail running with my dog, and playing pickleball. I’d rather read than watch a movie, and absolutely despise cooking! My first college degree was a B.S. in Nursing. I enjoyed that work very much with a focus on labor and delivery/newborn care. I then stayed at home to raise my four children. When it was time to return to work I gravitated to teaching. This was my intent when I started college but I got hooked on anatomy/physiology courses. My dad spent the majority of his career as a middle school math teacher so this was something I felt called to do. I graduated with my masters and have worked the past 22 years in special education, predominately at the elementary level. Don’t worry, my years of experience don’t mean I am lacking in energy. I believe that my passion for kids to reach their potential is what I bring to the school team. I witnessed daily the importance of teachers demonstrating that they care for their students through relationship building, clear expectations, and celebrations of success. It is obvious that our GMH families are deeply invested in the education of their children. I consider it an honor to serve alongside this community.

A native Central Oregonian, I spent my childhood summers in Prineville. After graduating from Bend Senior High School, I earned my Associate of Science degree in General Studies from Portland Community College, my Bachelor of Arts in English from Portland State University, and my Master of Arts in Teaching from George Fox University. In 2014, I began teaching English Language Development at Madras High School. In 2017, I moved back to Prineville. While I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Madras, I always looked forward to teaching in my hometown. I am very excited to join Grizzly Mountain HomeLink and serve the community that I call home. I look forward to getting to know and support our GMH students and families as a secondary-level English teacher.

I started my career in education as an aide at the school my children were attending. After several years, I began to realize that I wanted to have my own classroom to teach in, so I went back to school in 2006 to get my bachelor’s degree in education. I graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2010 and got a job teaching nutrition through Oregon State University Extension. In the fall of 2012, I was hired to teach Kindergarten for the Culver School District. I moved to 4th grade the next year and taught 4th grade until 2020. In 2019, I was hired to teach 4th grade for the Redmond School District. COVID brought a lot of changes to education, and one of them was a change in grade levels for me. In the fall of 2020, I started teaching 2nd grade, which was great because it allowed me to use the skills I obtained while earning my Reading Endorsement. One of my desires has been to work with small groups of students to help them read better and find more success in school, so when I heard that there was a position available at Grizzly Mountain HomeLink where I could refine those skills, I was happy to join the team. Having lived in Central Oregon my whole life, you would think I would get tired of watching the sunset and sunrises, but I love them now as much as I ever have. Even though I enjoy traveling and being around my children, I am very thankful to live in a beautiful area. My husband and I have been married for 36 years and have four children, five grandchildren, one dog, and three cats.

Janie Call

Online Science Teacher

I was raised in Anchorage, Alaska and Graduated from Service High School in 1978. After graduation I went to Montana State University for engineering, transferred to Loma Linda University to pursue Medicine. Then I changed my life direction, married and raised 4 wonderful sons. I decided upon homeschooling and had a wonderful experience teaching them thru high school. During this time, I realized I loved teaching so I went back to school at Washington State University, Vancouver Washington to earn my bachelors in Biology and my teaching certificate for Science. Then it was off to teaching high school science until 2016 when we moved to Bend.

More about Mrs. Call

My boys are all grown now and I could not be prouder of them. My oldest was a Navy Seal, my second is a medic in the Coast, my third son is Para Rescue in the Air Force, and my youngest is a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force.  I am a proud Grandmother of 8 and love every minute of it.

While my boys were growing up I became a 4-H leader in BeefMasters. It is one of my sons’ fondest memories taking steers to fair and learning how to market their beef. I also have a love for horses and after a divorce decided to go back to Anchorage to run the Equestrian Center in the summers. I met some amazing people and changed my direction again. I went back to school to get my PATH certification to teach equine assisted therapy. This began a wonderful adventure during the summer, teaching and sharing my love of horses. I started with 20 students and 4 helpers and today we see over 80 students and I have around 100 volunteers and 8 horses. I have traveled the Alcan now 22 times with my horses most of them being alone. The stories I could tell about my journeys through Canada with my 8 horses, the breakdowns and the wonderful people who helped me.

During the winter I have all my horses here in Central Oregon and spend lots of time feeding watering and riding in the Bad Lands. I am also teaching my grandkids to ride and am glad I have such wonderful horses to share with them. I also love to ski and have come to love Mt. Bachelor and Hoodoo.

This new adventure at Grizzly Mt. HomeLink is a way to put all my life experiences to work.  We want to empower parents to give their children a well-rounded education in a unique setting. We have a wonderful staff and look forward to this exciting journey with you.

My husband and I are expecting our first child and are very excited for our daughter to be here at the end of August 2021. We are so lucky to have the support of our families and friends during this big life change! We also have two playful cats at home.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and relaxing at home with our  cats! I love doing various arts and crafts when time allows and I have quite the collection of half completed projects laying around that I will one day get to!

At Grizzly Mountain HomeLink I enjoy making great connections with families and supporting them through the journey of learning at home! It has been amazing working in an environment with such innovative ideas coming to fruition; I can’t wait to see what we will be able to provide for families next!
